Archway Homes is not only a family run housebuilding company, we also devote time and care into helping in the local community and feel passionately about doing so.
We have recently started donating leftover materials, starting with some timber, from our Eddisbury Park development in Hartford, to a local charitable project aimed at bringing together men who may be lonely or isolated.
Men in Sheds is a project founded by Age UK, Cheshire, and originally set up in 2008. There are currently around 100 ‘Sheds’ across the UK and Age UK Cheshire has 4 in the areas of Hartford, Ellesmere Port, Crewe and Chester. Although appropriately named, the ‘Sheds’ are actually located within industrial units. They provide the opportunity for men to join together and work on personal and joint projects at their own pace in a safe and friendly environment.
Activities for members range from woodworking right through to health awareness sessions and general socialising. Age UK Men in Sheds is a valued charitable project for the male population of Cheshire.
Steve Thrower, Men in Sheds Project Senior Officer, informed us that the timber already donated had been used within the hour and was ideal to construct a stud wall for a new kitchen! (See photos below kindly sent to us by Steve)
It’s amazing to see that our leftover materials are able to be used in such a positive way. We hope that the members are as happy with their new kitchen as we are with seeing leftover materials put to such good use. We will continue to donate materials to Men in Sheds and look forward to hearing about their future projects.
