2018 Summer BBQ Raises over £1,300

18/07/2018

In keeping with our usual tradition Archway Homes held our annual Summer BBQ in June. The day was a resounding success in every regard - weather, food, enjoyment and in raising in excess of £1,300 to be shared between our two chosen charities, Chester Aid to Homeless (CATH) and SPACE.

Each year we send out invitations to all the people who work with us to help make Archway Homes a success and this time close to 90 adults and children were able to join us.  After a wet start, the rain cleared and then the afternoon stayed dry, without the scorching heat of the previous few weeks, which proved ideal. The BBQ was supplied by the Big Five Catering Company, https://www.big5catering.co.uk. and they brought along a fantastic hog roast that was cooked to perfection. Dessert was in the form of an ice cream van providing incredible ice cream concoctions, which were a real hit with adults and children alike, and the children had great fun on the variety of bouncy castle attractions.

We like to hold this event each year as a way of thanking the key people involved in building our homes. Those key people do not just include our staff and the people that head the teams or companies we work with - we also invite many of the actual tradesmen or associates who do the work. In many cases these people tend to be forgotten, and indeed we have had comments that in all their career ours is the first time they have been included in any social event. Equally, on the basis we are a family business, we always extend the invitation to family members, so it was great to see so many children enjoying the day.

An important part of our annual BBQ for us is the opportunity to raise money for charity and 2018 was no exception. We had a fantastic range of prizes for the raffle, for which we would like to thank all who contributed either prizes, time or money. Everyone was very generous and we managed to raise a fantastic sum in excess of £1,300.

Of the two chosen charities, Chester Aid to the Homeless, https://cath.org.uk/, is one that is very close to our hearts, both because of the accommodation related focus and also because we have a long standing relationship with them. In the past, with help from our staff and suppliers, we organised the refurbishment of their supported living property, Crispin House, in Chester city centre.

The other charity is new to us, but equally has a link to providing accomodation. SPACE, http://www.spacecheshire.org/, aims to provide local children who have additional needs with the opportunity to play in a friendly and safe environment. They also provide a space parents and carers can gain support, information, advice and the opportunity to meet other parents or carers in a similar situation. With these aims in mind SPACE contacted us earlier in the year to see if we could help them fund a multi-sensory play centre in Chester.  We were happy to help and not only agreed to provide £500 towards the drinks package for their upcoming Charity Ball, but also decided to add them as one of the charities for whom the proceeds of the Archway Summer BBQ would go.

Once again, the Archway Homes Summer BBQ was a highly successful day, enjoyed by all and it achieved our aim of giving something back to our local community.
